My Aiki journey began at 8 years of age. Achieving my first Shodan at 19, I was awarded my Aikikai Sandan in 2019.

So far my Aiki adventures have taken me to Iceland twice to train with Hiroaki Sensei. I also attended the Kobayashi Dojos 50th Anniversary Camp in Japan in October 2018, I was lucky to "represent" the UK in a demonstration whilst there.

Setting up our junior class, DIG Kids, at the start of 2019 has resulted in many hours of fun. I am really enjoying teaching our juniors and trying to give them the same experiences I had at their age.

I see many more Aiki Adventures ahead!!

10 x Key Skills (Aikido Related) Levels 1 – 3

I started my Aikido training in 1978 at the Bristol Budokan Martial Arts Centre, Chalks Road, under Sensei John Bennett. When he stood down John Czanusciewz Sensei became club instructor.

In 2011, on request of my students and friends, I set up D.I.G. Our goal was to get closer to O Sensei's Aikido. We achieved this by becoming a part of Aikido Kobayashi Dojo, Japan. In our nine years under Hiroaki Sensei's tutelage I have found that all the missing "jigsaw pieces" have fallen in to place and "unanswered questions" have finally been answered!!

My pursuit for a maximised Hara combined with many years of Après Rugby has had unexpected results!!

Advanced First Aid

I discovered Aikido in 2015 whilst recovering from an injury sustained whilst Triathlon cycling training. In 2018 I travelled to Japan to take part in the Kobayashi Dojos 50th Anniversary Camp where I "represented" the UK in a demonstration with Sensei Curtis. At the start of 2019 I was more than happy to play a part in setting up the DIG Kids class. In 2020 I travelled to Iceland to train with Hiroaki Sensei. I am now trying my hand at teaching the kids under Sensei Curtis’s supervision.

I have jumped in with both feet and I am loving it!!
