My Aiki journey began at 8 years of age. Achieving my first Shodan at 19, I was awarded my Aikikai Yondan in 2023. I have been lucky to be part of Kobayashi Dojos Uchi deshi Program, spending 4 weeks living and training at Tokorozawa Dojo, home of Hiroaki Sensei.
My Aiki adventures have taken me to Iceland twice to train with Hiroaki Sensei. I have also attended the Kobayashi Dojos 50th and 55th Anniversary Camps in Japan, I was lucky to "represent" the UK twice in a demonstrations whilst there.
Setting up our junior class, DIG Kids, at the start of 2019 has resulted in many hours of fun, I am trying to give them the same experiences I had at their age.
I see many more Aiki Adventures ahead!!

I started my Aikido training in 1978 at the Bristol Budokan Martial Arts Centre, Chalks Road, under Sensei John Bennett. When he stood down John Czanusciewz Sensei became club instructor.
In 2011, on request of my students and friends, I set up D.I.G. Our goal was to get closer to O Sensei's Aikido. We achieved this by becoming a part of Aikido Kobayashi Dojo, Japan. Under Hiroaki Kobayashi Sensei's tutelage I have found that all the missing "jigsaw pieces" have fallen in to place and "unanswered questions" have finally been answered!!
My pursuit for a maximised Hara combined with many years of Après Rugby has had unexpected results!!

I started Aikido in 1991 at Yate with Tony Davis, at that time part of Kai Shin Kai, although he always encouraged me to train with other groups and styles as well and I have trained with quite a few teachers over the years.
I first practiced with Yasuo Kobayashi Soshihan and Hiroaki Kobayashi Shihan while on holiday in Japan in 1996, after being introduced to their style by Clive MacDowell in Bristol, and although I've continued to train with other groups as well, Kobayashi dojos has been a main part of my aikido practice ever since then.
I am currently doing research for my upcoming autobiography "I've been everywhere man" - a humorous look at travels around the world in pursuit of absolute "mu"
